9/4/11
This race was for the Labor Day Cup in both fleets and the last competitive race
of the year. A little cooler than we've been used to, but still very
pleasant with winds out of the NW at 10 to 15. There were 4
boats in the C Fleet and 8 boats in the Open Fleet running a double
windward/leaward. The course made for many close encounters between
the fleets and within the fleets. Ben and Doug Burgum (LP1) finished
in front of Tommy Stadum to win the Labor Day Cup in the C Fleet. In
the Open Fleet, Peltier's just edged out Bob Leonard by 9 secounds to win
the Labor Day Cup in that Fleet.

.
The fleets converge at the 1st mark. The second time up was just as close!

.
8/28/11
This was the last race in the Summer Series for th C Scows and the Season Series
for the Open Fleet. Winds were mostly light out of the east then SE and
occasionally south keeping John busy with the course. In the C Fleet, Gary
Ostbye edged out Doug Burgum in both races, but Dougs two 2nd place finishes were
enough to edge out Gary for the Summer Series by one point.

.
.
.
In
the Open Fleet, it was equally close with Brad and Carol Schlossman
finishing in front of Peltiers in both races to tie the series.
Anne & Jeff Peltier won the tie breaker, going out to the 3rd extra race.

8/21/11
Another great day in August with winds out of the west at 10 mph.
There were 5 in the C Fleet and 9 in the Open Fleet today with races
starting very close to the 11:00 am mark. For the C Fleet Gary Ostbye
edged out Doug Burgum in the 1st race and Doug Burgum edged out Tommy Stadum
in the 2nd race. With one week to go in the standings 1st and 2nd place are
still up in the air.

C Fleet is getting their starts down toward the end of the season!

In
the Open Fleet, Bob Leonard had another great day and won both races.
In the 1st race he finished 32 secounds in front of Schlossmans and in the
2nd race, he finished 8 secounds in front of Peltiers. This division
is getting very close as well with only 4 points separating the top three
boats going into the last weekend. The Handi Cap series is very close
as well, with Chris Bredlow leading Bob Leonard by only .055

8/14/11
Very nice day in August with light winds out of the SW at 5-10 mph.
There were 7 boats in the Open Fleet and none in the C Fleet. Some of
the C Fleet were down in the Cities for a regatta. Tom Frei was out in
his boat for the 2nd time and right on the starting line for the races.
In the 1st race, Peltiers finished in front of Bob Leonard and in the 2nd
race, it was just the opposite, with Bob Leonard finishing in front of
Peltiers. This followed a wonderful rafting party Saturday evening
with 9 boats in the raft-up, 8 in this picture!
Tom Frei, right on the starting line!

8/7/11
This is the weekend after the Wallwork and time for the Brad Burgum "Love of
Sailing" Cup on the east end of the Lake. The winds were very light
out of the NE at something less than 3mph. Once again, the C Fleet
missed their start and started in the Open Fleet time slot (note to C-Fleet:
you really do start at the 6 minute mark and not the 9 minute mark!).
Fortunately the Open Fleet adapted and re-started about 3 minutes later.
The wind had shifted creating a drag race (if you can call drifting toward a
buoy a drag race) toward the windward mark, followed by an evan slower drag
race to the leeward mark and then back to the finish line. Doug and
James Burgum won the C Fleet while Brad and Carol Schlossman won the Open
Fleet.
There they are: Off and running at the nine minute mark!!
7/17/11
It started out Hot and Muggy, but became cloudy with threatening weather
toward the end with winds going from SE to SW at 10 mph. In the C
Fleet, Burgum family tried the 1st port start of the year and successfully
pulled it off and eventually go on to win both that race and 2nd race, which
turned out to be a drag race as the winds had clocked around making for a
reach/reach instead of a windward/leaward.
.
.
There they are just clearing in front of Tommy Stadum. Gary running with both boards down.
.
In
the Open Fleet, there were 7 boats for the 1st race and 8 in the 2nd race.
This was the 1st time racing for Tom Frie in his Montgumary 17. In the
1st race Peltiers edged out Schlossmans and Bob Leonard and in the 2nd race,
Stan Furr edged out Reed Deardorff by 10 secounds in a race that featured
spinnakers flying upwind and well as downwind.
.
Looks like Chris is doing Chin-ups on the spinnaker pole. Maybe he's bulking up for College Wrestling?

.
7/10/11
Beautiful Day out on the race course with SE winds at 10 mph. All 5 C
Scows were out and on the starting line for a nice clean start. Jason
Ostbye/LP7 edged out Tommy Stadum/P3 in the 1st race and finished in front
of David Schlossman/LP2 in the 2nd race.
.
.C Fleet all lined up in a row!
.
.
.
.
In the Open Fleet, there were 9 boats. All the Youth Instructors were on Club 420's. Reed and Kent Deardorff were on one boat while Evan Furr was on the other with one of our students, Dominic Todd. Dominic had just learned to fly a spinnaker earlier in the week. Reed and Kent finished 3rd behind Peltiers and Bob Leonard in the 1st race, and 2nd behind Brad and Carol Schlossman in the 2nd race. Evan and Dominic got a late start in the 1st race, but finished 6th in the 2nd race.
.
Everyone is focusing on the start!

7/4/11
Breezy and warm today with SE winds at 15-20 mph for the 4th of July Cup
Race. There were 4 boats in the C-Fleet, but with the gusty winds, there
were a couple of tip-overs leaving Ben & Joe Burgum aboard Burgum Family/LP1 to
hold off Tommy Stadum/P3 and win the 4th of July Cup.
In the Open Fleet, there were 8 boats and a little too anxious to start, with 5 boats over on the 1st start and causing a general recall. Peltier's/Island Rhythm finished just in front of Reed Deardorff and Stan Furr to win the 4th of July Cup. Reed had his mother Liz for crew and they did an excellent job of holding the boat down in the big puffs.

7/3/11
Well....Today was quite a confusing day. It started out with the races
starting over an hour late because of run-a-way bouys and lost anchors.
The 1st race was off and on the home stretch when David Schlossman, who was
leading a very close race, got pulled over by the sheriff for not having
current tabs, leaving Bugums in the lead until they hit the leeward
mark. Good thing the race wasn't any longer at that rate of attrition.
In the end Gary Ostbye won the 1st race and the 2nd race was won by Tommy
Stadum.
This is right after David got pulled out of the race
In the Open Fleet, there were 10 boats and very competitive racing. The 1st race was won by Peltiers with Schlossmans and Reed Deardorff right behind. Just a minute back from them was Kent Deardorff, followed closely by Bob Leonard and Stan Furr. In the 2nd race Reed Deardorff ran a great race to finish 20 seconds in front of Peltiers and take top honors. In the handicap series, Dick Chadinha won both races in his first outing of the year and also his first wins since he started.

6/26/11
Good winds out of the SE at 10-15mph made for great racing. In the C-Fleet
Gary Ostbye edged out Tommy Stadum to win both races (with a
little coaching from his son) to take the June Series. In the
Open fleet, Stan Furr and his son Evan won both races. They were so
far out in front of everyone, the only picture we could get of them was at
the start of the 2nd race when we were over early.
Of the 9 boats racing today, there were 5 Father/Son teams: Gary & Jason Ostbye, Jeff & David Schlossman, Doug & Joe Burgum, Stan & Evan Furr, Bob and Chris Leonard (and his other son Franko!).
.
There they are!! Unfortunately right after this picture was taken, we had to go back and start over again.
.
6/19/11
What a difference a week makes. There were pleasent winds out of the
east at 10 mph and the C-Fleet started in their normal time-slot!!!
The 1st race in the C-Fleet was won by Burgum Family (LP1), not to be
confused with the other Burgum Family (LP88) since James and Brett Itterman
were in charge of that boat today. Jeff Schlossman came on strong to
win the 2nd race as the winds shifted, making for an all-out sprint.
Those new watches really paid off!!
In
the Open Fleet, through many close crossings and very competitive starts,
Peltiers (Island Rhythm) came out ahead in both races.
Rhonda and Chip with their new boat (or newly resurrected) right on the starting line with everyone else.

6/12/11
It was a breezy day on Pelican with winds out of the SE at 15-25 mph.
The races got off to a confusing start when the C Fleet missed their
starting sequence and started in the Open Fleet sequence. Fortunately,
the Open Fleet adapted and held off an extra 3 minutes.
note to C Fleet: Wallmart has a sale on watches all this week!!
.
.
It was a Multi-Hull kind of a day! Brad and Carol trying out their brand new sails that add a little more color to the fleet.
.
.
Racing
was at a brisk pace with Brad and Carol Schlossman winning both races in the
Open Fleet and Burgum Family (LP1) winning both races in the C Fleet.
It looked like Tommy Stadum had a breakdown in the 1st race for the C Fleet
and Multi-Hulls dominated the racing in the Open Fleet.
.
.
Chris Bredlow decides it's time for a swim at the start of the race as John looks on!
Hope nobody notices the 2010 stickers on his boat!
.
6/5/11
The 2011 season Memorial Day Cup Race started one week late, but was
very competitive. In the Open Fleet, Anne and Jeff Peltier edged out Carol
and Brad Schlossman by less than 4 seconds and in the C-Fleet, Tommy Stadum
edged out David Schlossman. Winds were out of the South at 10-15 and the
course was a Triangle/WL.

Bob Leonard tests his sanity with 3 teenagers for crew!!

Remember the new race time of 11:00am for all races except for the 4th of July, which is at 1:00pm.
